Nowadays, we often speak of a supply and demand function. ISM covers the supply domain and manages the realization of the agreed services. However, in order to achieve a good information system the service provision should be specified and managed. The Functional Service Management (FSM) method has been developed for this purpose. FSM organizes the supply aspect of the Functional Management function.

With the FSM method, an organization can control its information management, fully analogous to ISM. Just as ISM facilitates the use of guidelines from ITIL, ASL and MOF, FSM facilitates the use of guidelines form BiSL.
The FSM method consists of a similar series of components like ISM. The FSM plug in provides direct access to all the agreed methods of working, staff and corresponding resources:

  • access to the publication tool
  • the FSM process model and corresponding processes
  • the description of the organization
  • access to the support tool
  • templates, procedures and work instructions
  • terms and definitions
  • a standard project approach

Al these resources are linked together, which facilitates navigation in the FSM plug in. FSM is fully analogous to ISM and FSM and ISM can be fully integrated.
