Configuration management
The purpose of the configuration management process is to deliver accurate and up-to-date information on the information system.
The process also ensures fast access to that information. This is essential in order to deal quickly and effectively with incidents and changes. A reliable configuration-management database (CMDB) is an important source of information for other processes, too, and helps to reduce the need for time-consuming and costly inventories.
The process sets out the structure of the CMDB and ensures accurate registration in the CMDB, verifies the data on a regular basis, and supports requests for information from the CMDB.
